Bartolomeus, Elnar Wolf
Rizz, Two-Tens-and-One, Seven years
HISTORY
Born of Winterhold to Lukas and Gundine Bartolomeus, a family of tailors, Elnar's earliest months were spent bundled up near a fire. Despite rather small amount of residents of the city, the Bartolomeus family was able to save up enough money to move down to Riften sooner-rather-than-later; thanks in part to Lukas' brother, Urpo.
This is where Elnar's story truly begins. Growing up his mother taught him whatever she could. Being a slightly capable of magic and extremely educated she attempted to pass all she could down to her only son. The magic never took, which disheartened young Elnar terribly so; but the child was exceptionally smart and learned to read at a young age.
In addition to this, Elnar was a well behaved boy. Manners and obedience to his parents. Despite hating the trade, he learned his father's ways with no qualms. In his free time, Elnar ran around with his friends, pretending to be a knight, using sticks for swords. This was the pace of the Bartolomeus family for many years.
Over the years Elnar became the best swordsman, even if it were only wooden swords, in his group of friends; as well as, thanks to his mother, the most intelligent. This coupled with his natural charisma made the young tailor a force to be reckoned with within Riften by the age of thirteen. He commanded his own little mob of goons, proving to be a natural leader, to wreck all sorts mischief to anyone who was not from Riften and used anything they managed to steal to sell and help out their families.
At the age of seventeen, Elnar's father became very ill. Even his mother's Restoration magic could help him. Elnar took over the family business while still running his mob throughout the night. He managed to find a balance where he was able to keep the small family warm and fed, but it wasn't enough to find his dad help. When Lukas became too weak to even stand, Elnar had enough. The teen fashioned himself a set of leather armor; and a week later he packed his things, managed to steal a sword from the local blacksmith, and left his home. Outside of Riften he charged his best friend, and second-in-command, to take care of his family and do with the little wanna-be Thieves Guild whatever he wish. Elnar told him that he'd go off to become a sellsword, that he'd send money to both him and the family, and asked the his best friend pass on the news to his mother.
The first year and odd couple months where difficult ones for Elnar. No one would trust a boy to defend them. But eventually his cheap prices and well tested charisma won him over. After every job he'd split his earnings into threes and send two back home, one with a letter to his best friend and one with a letter to his mom.
It didn't take long for Elnar to buy himself a shield and some heavy armor. And once the boy was used to the new weight, he truly shined as a sellsword. Fitted in heavy metals, a shield, and a sword, Elnar quickly became exceptionally skilled with the blade. He began to take higher and higher profile jobs and soon he couldn't find a month without work. The sums of money grew larger, and the money sent home was greater. To the point that Gundine was able to get Lukas a healer to tend to him and Gundine herself could stop working all together.
The young man soon earned the title of The Silent Shield. Elnar was surprisingly quiet within his heavy armor. Padded and outlined with the fur of wolves and leather, coupled with his stealth experience, Elanr was almost a ghost within his armor. This made him a superb bodyguard. Despite constant requests, Elnar never took on a permanent job. He stuck to an escort line of work. A feeling of emptiness left Elnar refusing to take good jobs.
But if the good die young, than the bad live old, and the questionable get cursed. At nineteen years of age, Elnar had won battles against the Thalmor, Strormcloaks, Empire, Bandits, Trolls, Orcs; he is speculated to have foiled numerous assassinations, one in particular thought to have been an attempt by the Dark Brotherhood; he has survived Giants and Vampires. One could say he has become an experienced warrior. It was a normal job, escort a nobleman and his wife to Solitude. The company consisted of the nobleman, his wife, a bodyguard, and Elnar. When possible, Elnar would be hidden, traveling off the paths, through the brush and woods. When it wasn't possible to stay out of sight, The Silent Shield would travel with the bodyguard and exchange stories.
The group had just left Whiterun, now a speck of lights in the horizon, when an elderly man happened to cross their path. Elnar hadn't paid him much attention. Old and in ragged clothing. Absolutely zero threat. But when the nobleman's wife gave a shout, Elnar jerked his head in their direction in time to see the last bits of human disappearing under shifting bones and muscles. They had encountered a werewolf...
Before Elnar had even closed the gap between himself and the werewolf, the nobleman and his wife lay dead. During a brief battle, Elnar noticed that the bodyguard had fled. A werewolf was something he'd never faced before...
Elnar woke sometime later within The Bannered Mare. The bodyguard was looking over him. "Why," the bodyguard asked, "Did you fight that thing after the nobleman and his wife were dead? Our jobs were done at that point..."
The question seemed stupid to Elnar, but he couldn't find an easy answer. Eventually the young man replied with, "I... I don't know..."
The bodyguard took care of Elnar for a few more days out of something he pinned for "respect for the Silent Shield." During the encounter Elnar had been bitten in the shoulder, something the bodyguard said he'd have the mages at Winterhold check out. Elnar couldn't agree more, and with that the two went their separate ways.
Elnar didn't even make it to Windhelm before strange things began happening to him. The Silent Shield began blacking out. The first time he lost all his armor and clothes, waking up naked with his shield, sword, and a pool of blood he suspected didn't belong to him. The second time he lost his shield and sword, although the pool of blood followed him.
It wasn't until Elnar was near the city of Winterhold that he realized what had happened to him. He had become a werewolf. A monster... The idea disgusted the Nord. He gave up his name and his title. If anyone where to meet him while he was in human form, he'd go by the name Wolf. For the better part of the next three years Wolf hunted in Winterhold, and his werewolf self became known as the Ghost Wolf for his silent movements and the way he seems to appear and disappear without warning; as well as The Hound of Winterhold, which is more-or-less self explanatory. Over the past three years, Wolf has learned to have a limited amount of control over his transformations and well as keeping a small amount of consciousness.
